Microsoft will offer a sneak peak of the technology used in the latest edition of Windows.
A select audience will be invited to two technical conferences where the engineering information about Windows 7 will be on show.
The Professional Developers Conference and the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference will take place in October. Windows 7 is set for release in January 2010 and will be based on Microsoft's successful operating system Vista.
A blog written by engineers working on the software broke the news of the preview.
Writing on the blog, engineers Jon DeVaan and Steven Sinofsky, explained that information about Windows 7 had been sparse because Microsoft did not want to mention features that may not make it to the end product.
Components from Vista will be at the core of Windows 7 and, with an appropriate screen, it will have a touch interface which will allow users to complete tasks. Pinching the screen, for example, could close documents or manipulate images.
According to industry speculation, Windows 7 will also make data and programs more easily accessible to people who use a variety of different machines.
