Games console maker Sony has announced the launch of its new PlayStation Portable (PSP) model, due to go on sale in October.
The PSP-3000 replaces the PSP-2000 and features a brighter LCD screen - better suited for outdoor use - as well as a built-in microphone and a shorter response time than the existing console.
Writing on Sony's website, David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said: "When you look at it in daylight, it looks brighter, it looks more intense and you get a better feeling when you're looking at the pictures.
"If you looked at a PSP-2000, you would say that it looks great anyway; when you see the PSP-3000, it's only then that you see that there's been quite an improvement on the screen.
"We're going to introduce PSP-3000 in October, and this will be sold initially as part of a bundle, with a piece of software. During this period, PSP-2000 will remain as the base PSP model."
The PSP's biggest competitor is Nintendo's DS. Sony sold 3.72 million PSPs worldwide between April and June this year, while the DS sold 6.94 million.
