Mozilla has announced a release candidate for Firefox 3.5 and expects to launch the final version by the end of June.
The new browser, which will be available on Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems, promises to be twice as fast as Firefox 3 and boasts as many as 5,000 new features.
Among its numerous additions are geolocation - which allows websites that require the information to know a user's location - and a private browsing mode also referred to as the 'porn mode' or the 'job hunting mode'.
It also has built-in video, where users can watch videos without the aid of plug-in files, and local storage that will allow users to work with no network connection.
The Firefox 3.3 browser also comes with a 'tear off tabs' feature, where users can drag a tab and open it in a new window.
"We've added technology we think upgrades the web itself," Firefox director Mike Beltzner said. "We're aiming the final release around the end of the month."
Mr Beltzner says he expects this version to be the sole release candidate.
