Navigon has launched the first European satnav application compatible with the iPhone, now available from the iTunes store.
Speculation about an iPhone-compatible application rose after Apple announced in March that the iPhone 3.0 would support satellite navigation.
With the Mobile.Navigator the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S can now be turned into a fully functional satellite navigation system.
Navigon's Gerhard Mayr described the satnav-fitted iPhone as "an almost indispensable and always desirable travel companion at home and abroad".
Besides the standard satnav functions, the Mobile.Navigator includes an optional display of POIs (points of interest) along the route, and Navigon's own Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, Speed Assistant and a Day & Night Mode.
Two versions of the programme will be offered. The full version is available at a special introductory rate of £54.99. The cheaper regional version containing specific maps for various countries will be released later.
A free "lite" version which finds points of interest, but without active route guidance is also in the pipeline. The current introductory prices will be revised soon, the company said.
