Mozilla has launched the full version of its latest Firefox internet browser.
Firefox 3.5 comes with improvements in JavaScript which makes it capable of loading web pages more than twice as fast as its 3.0 predecessor.
Mozilla says the new private browsing mode will also increase protection for users online.
They can access video and audio content from within the browser without the need of plug-ins, while the Location Aware Browsing feature will help save time by providing useful data about the users' locations.
Jeffrey Hammond, an analyst covering web applications and services for Forrester Research, told Financial Times: "It really is Browser Wars 2.
"It is certainly the most innovative period since the late 90s. The technology is shifting, the types of apps are shifting, the web is going real-time and we are seeing a tremendous amount of experimentation."
The pace of innovation by Firefox has brought an unexpected wave of competition back to browsers. Net Applications data reveals that Firefox now accounts for about 23% of the market, while Safari takes in 8% and Google's Chrome browser occupies 2%.
